VOCATIONAL EXAMS

Vocational grades

Grade exams include:
- Intermediate Foundation
- Intermediate
- Advanced Foundation
- Advanced 1
- Advanced 2

Vocational students must fulfil the following commitments whilst working towards their exam:

  • x2 classes of training per week

  • Holiday Workshop Intensive

  • Mock Exam

  • Exam

Exam Dates

Major Vocational exams can be taken in any of the following sessions outlined by RAD:

  • Sydney 1st session: 13th May - 30th June

  • Sydney Dual session: 1st September - 21st September

  • Sydney 2nd session: 13th October - 14th December

Major Vocational exams are different from grades in that students will be sent for their exam when they are ready. Our Action teachers will guide students and parents as to when the student will be ready for their exam, we encourage students to strive for a particular session.

Once students are entered the exact exam dates are not given to us until about a month before and unfortunately we have no control over which date is given to us. This means students will often have to miss a day or half a day of school. Letters can be acquired from the Royal Academy of Dance if needed for your school.

Holiday Workshop intensives

Monday 14th April - Wednesday 16th April 2025

For students taking their exams in Sydney 1st or Sydney Dual session It is compulsory for all vocational exam students to attend the Holiday Workshop Intensive. Students will attend 3 days (2 hours per day) to consolidate their exam work and practice within their exam small group.

Mock Exam

Sunday 3rd August 2025

Please keep this date free until we finalise our schedule. Mock exams are compulsory for all exam students. This is a very important dress rehearsal for the students to practice in the studio and perform in front of a mock examiner. Our teachers will receive written feedback with areas for students to work on prior to their exam. The Mock Exams will be held at the Action Dance studio and individual times will be allocated closer to the date.

Make up / Catch up Lessons

If a large amount of lessons are missed, private lessons are required to ensure the student does not fall too far behind in their preparation. What if I miss the Workshop intensive? Workshop Intensives must be made up with private lessons, the amount will depend on how many hours are missed. Private lessons are charged at $55 for 30mins.
